A 28 year old British woman has died while undergoing gastric band surgery in Turkey.

Shannon Bowe, from Denny, near Falkirk in Scotland, tragically passed away during the procedure on Saturday, April 1.

The adjustable gastric band is a surgically implanted device to help people with obesity lose weight.

The procedure involves placing a silicone band called the Lap-Band around your stomach. The gastric band reduces your stomach capacity and slows the passage of food through your stomach. This can retrain you to eat less.

Shannon's boyfriend, Ross Stirling, has led tributes on Facebook. He wrote: "Sleep tight my angel, love you forever and always."

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman said they were supporting the family of a British national who died in Turkey.

May her soul rest in peace.
